Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official said the vandalism made him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
