Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, invading the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the group enter locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them few options but to head to the northern region in search of the traitor.
